The Movement Begins
As a young woman in Britain, I don’t feel safe. Walking down the streets in central London, I get catcalled, stared at and even followed on a daily basis. I’ve spoken about this to my friends and they all had similar experiences. However, the recurring theme seemed to be that it was majority foreign men.
Over the past decade, we have seen a wave of immigration from men who come from countries that commit extreme violence and abuse towards women. Unfortunately, they’ve carried that trait along with them to Britain. Foreign nationals are 71% more likely to be convicted of a sex crime compared to Britons.
Despite this upsurge in violence against women, hardly anyone is speaking out against it. That’s why we launched the Women’s Safety Initiative. Our goal is to empower women to speak about their experiences and to support victims who have suffered this violence since the authorities have failed them.
We launched just over a week ago and we’ve already received an overwhelming amount of support. From several viral media appearances, ten thousand followers on Twitter, millions of impressions and countless women coming forward about their own experiences. I truly believe that this can make a real difference and help women.
Thank you all for your support, whether you’ve followed our social media, sent us a nice message, asked to become a member, or donated to us. This is just the beginning of a movement that will save Britain.
